Big Island Volcano Tour
Big Island has the most active volcano in the world, Kilauea, and so is one of the most popularly toured spots on the islands. There are a number tours that go to Big Island and Kilauea, so you will want to look over each of them and decide which is the best one for you. The list below will give you some expected prices, length of time, and what the cost and tour entails.
Blue Hawaiian
Blue Hawaiian offers several tours that fly over Kilauea, and the are some of the best tours in Hawaii. The Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls tour is a shorter tour, and so is cheaper and will take you right by the mouth of the volcano. As the title suggests, it will also take you by some fantastic waterfalls. The other tour is the Big Island Spectacular. Go on it for more depth and information, as well as some additional sights on Big Island that the time doesn't allow to be visited on the Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls tour.
Circle of Fire Plus Waterfalls
The Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls tour is among the best tours for the money (especially at the discount offered on the website) and is probably one of the the most gratifying helicopter tours of Hawaii. Reason number one being that it focuses on volcanic activity and lava that made Hawaii famous. The black sand beaches, lava flowing into the ocean creating plumes of smoke, and tropical rain forests all add to this activity's reputation. They will also take you by some of the biggest waterfalls in the nation, a wall of cascading waterfalls falling over 1000 feet down the side of a mountain.
Big Island Spectacular
The Big Island Spectacular is similar to the Circle of Fire tour, but it has twice the number of sights. You can go see Pele's badlands and some of the lesser known picturesque landscapes on the island. This tour was voted the "World's Best Helicopter Thrill" by the Travel Channel and is definitely deserving of that title. This reputation makes booking it a nightmare, so be sure to book a couple of weeks ahead of time to be sure of a slot that fits your schedule. If not, you may have to fit your schedule around the flight.
Sunshine Helicopters
Sunshine Helicopters also offers a tour of Kilauea but asks that you book at least 72 hours in advance as well. Their prices are slightly more expensive if booking both online, but if you call and reserve, their prices are cheaper than calling and booking Blue Hawaiian. Sunshine has a perfect flying record, though, so if you are going with someone like Raymond from the "Rain Man" this is the perfect company to book.
