People looking to get away from civilization for a while will find the accommodations here are great without breaking the feeling of being in a simpler place.

Big Island has a number of tours that you can take of the island. Blue Hawaiian and Sunshine Helicopters both have some excellent tours of the island and everything that is on it. Blue Hawaiian's perks are that the online price is the cheapest helicopter touring prices you will find, it offers some of the best luxuries in it's Eco-star helicopters, and it has a reputation as the best helicopter touring company in the world. Sunshine Helicopters has a perfect record and some of the cheapest listed prices for helicopter tours. It also doesn't have a set course, so you can end up going to some of the more obscure places and seeing the secret spots only the helicopter pilot knows about.
One problem with going on one of the tours that is offered by the helicopter companies is that the flight plan is subject to the weather. So if you fill all of your days with activities and then have a flight on your last day, you will not be able to fly if the weather is bad. In this way, you should make fairly fluid plans and try to put the helicopter tour early on in your trip. This will allow time for rescheduling if the weather gets too bad to fly.
